Roger Staubach spent his entire NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys (1969-1979), winning two Super Bowl championships, six time Pro Bowl selection and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985 as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the position.

Yet, before he became Roger "The Dodger," he was a star at the U.S. Naval Academy, dazzling fans and frustrating opponents as the nation's top Heisman Trophy candidate of 1963.

Hoping to cash in on Staubach's star power, Life Magazine sent reporter Bill Costello to Annapolis, MD. to do a cover story on the college football phenom - scheduled for the November 29th issue.

That same week, President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas - killing the Staubach cover. Costello's profile was never published, becoming a footnote to history and a rare find for enthusiastic collectors.
